As the director of the 2025 Theatre Production at Taibah International School, I still feel a surge of pride and joy reflecting on the resounding success of our adaptation of Ernest Lehman’s “The Sound of Music.” This year’s Good Friday event surpassed mere performance; it was a vibrant tapestry woven from music, dance, and drama, showcasing the immense talent and collaborative spirit that thrives within our school community.
The journey began with a personal ambition, an application to helm this significant production. Receiving the opportunity was both exciting and a call to action. The auditions were held at the A-Level Centre, where aspiring lead soloists, instrumentalists, and actors were selected purely based on their merit. This strict yet unbiased process laid the foundation for the exceptional talent that graced our stage.
The path to success was paved with dedication and hard work as participants actively engaged in vocal training, dance rehearsals, instrumental practices, and acting sessions, bringing the beloved characters to life. Initially, attendance was modest, with many students understandably prioritizing their usual after-school sports and personal administration. However, as word spread and the vision for the production began to take shape, a remarkable shift to over 1000 participants occurred. Enthusiasm grew, and even those initially unconvinced of theatre’s appeal joined our ranks. The increasing intensity of training only fueled their determination to polish their performances.
This ambitious undertaking was far from a solitary effort. I was privileged to work alongside a dedicated group of students forming various management teams. The props and costume department crafted the visual elements, the welfare team ensured the well-being of all participants, and the stage management crew ensured the seamless flow of each scene. Our teachers were also very helpful, particularly in fostering discipline and guiding the students on what to do. The collective effort and shared responsibility eased the initial pressure I felt, transforming it into a collaborative drive for excellence.
The involvement of all four Taibah schools allowed for a rich exchange of talent and perspectives, culminating in combined rehearsals that amplified the scale and impact of the performance. As the D-day approached, a noticeable excitement filled the air, a blend of anticipation and perhaps a touch of pre-show jitters. My pressure intensified, driven by the desire to honor Taibah’s legacy of outstanding productions.
Our student show, a dress rehearsal held before the main events, served a dual purpose. It offered a sneak peek for non-participating students and provided our performers with a crucial opportunity to familiarize themselves with the stage and refine their transitions. Finally, the day arrived – a kaleidoscope of color and energy. The students were radiant, their enthusiasm infectious. We were incredibly fortunate to partner with Swangz Avenue and Buzz Events, whose expertise transformed our vision into a tangible reality. The magnificent dome tent, complete with a professional stage and stunning lighting, created an immersive atmosphere for our audience.
The turnout for all three shows was truly overwhelming. A wave of relief washed over me as it became clear that the production was a booming success. The audience’s delight was evident in their enthusiastic applause and appreciation for the diverse performances. Interwoven between the scenes of the play were captivating dances that celebrated cultures from around the globe, adding a vibrant and dynamic aspect to the storytelling. Our lead soloists shone brightly, their voices soaring as they led the powerful mass choir through the iconic songs. The various management teams executed their responsibilities flawlessly, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
The 2025 Theatre Production was more than just a show; it was a testament to the power of collaboration, dedication, and the unifying force of the arts. It was a truly fun and memorable day, etching itself into the rich history of Taibah International School. As the director, I am immensely proud of what we achieved together and deeply grateful for the unwavering commitment of every student, teacher, and partner who contributed to this harmonious triumph.
