Nine Hours

It was the 30th day of January, 2025, when I spent nine hours as a pupil on duty from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. I wore a floral dress, jewelry, a jean jacket and high heels. The moment I got out, I was showered with comments about my outfit.  On arriving at the administration block, I caught the eyes of Tr. Judy in her office. I smiled at her and she smiled back at me.

I entered the building and greeted Ms. Joweria. I then got a chair from the library and started my work.  There was a large number of parents and children, for it was the second day of school. Alvin, who was also the pupil on duty, wrote the fees receipts. I was giving out clearance cards in the meantime.

After some time, we gave some parents a tour around the school. Before I knew it, there were no more parents. Matrons later came to register pocket money. I was the one writing the pocket money receipts.

The lower school and Cambridge teachers later came to the boardroom for breakfast. Ms. Joweria left Alvin and me in charge of the front desk as she had her breakfast. When the lower school and Cambridge teachers finished their breakfast, the upper school teachers came in. Ms. Joweria took over the front desk as Alvin and I had breakfast. I had black tea and doughnuts for breakfast. After breakfast, we went back to the front desk. There, we continued with our duties until lunchtime. When I entered the dining room, all my friends were talking about my outfit. Then they later rang the bell and we prayed. I ate very fast and went back to the reception. There, I found a lot of work to do. Alvin and I cut the bank slips while Ms. Joweria received guests. I was also sent to accounts multiple times. Time passed, and we had to go home. I said bye to Tr. Judy and Ms. Joweria. I then slopped down to the field with my friends. After a few minutes, Aunt Olivia called my name, and I went home.

If I had another chance to be on duty, I would take it on.
