A Warm Welcome!
We extend a heartfelt welcome to all our new parents and children joining the Taibah International School Primary family. Thank you for choosing us as your school of choice. In Taibah, we believe that learning should be enjoyable and that school must be a happy place. You may have already noticed that Taibah feels like a home away from home – this is intentional. Since children spend a significant portion of their formative years at school, we deliberately design our environment to be nurturing and homely. We want every child to look forward to coming to school each day. We hope you are enjoying your time with us so far. Should you have any feedback on how we can enhance your experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Gratitude
We are thankful to the Almighty God for His constant protection and guidance. We are humbled by the many successes we have registered over the past four months and remain grateful to our dedicated parents for your trust and support. Your partnership has been vital – thank you for always standing with us. We acknowledge that raising a child, especially in these early years, requires strong collaboration between parents and teachers.
Term 1 Reflections
As expected, the first term presents a number of challenges because pupils meet new teachers, and vice versa. It is mostly a time for us to know each other and to forge strong teacher-student relationships. These early connections are critical in laying the foundation for academic and social development throughout the year. We are pleased that many children have successfully settled and established the necessary learning routines. We expect even greater academic and social growth in Term Two as familiarity and understanding deepen. While a few learners continue to face challenges, we now know them better and are confident in their progress moving forward.
Sports Day
This term was packed with activities designed to support holistic child development. Our Sports term, culminating in Sports Day during Week 6, was a major highlight. Students actively participated in various sports, including badminton, swimming, football for both boys and girls, netball, basketball, cross-country, and more. Our main objective is participation, not just winning, and we are proud that nearly every child had a chance to take part. Through these activities, children learned important life values such as resilience, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Congratulations to Moroto Green House, the overall Sports Day champions, closely followed by Rwenzori Red House. But most importantly, congratulations to all our children. At Taibah, we believe there are no losers – participation, effort, and personal growth are our true measures of success.
Road Safety Campaign
Our Road Safety Campaign was also in full swing. This term, we focused on child safety, specifically encouraging children to sit in the back seat, which is proven to be the safest place for them. Thank you, parents, for reinforcing this habit. We’ve also raised awareness about speeding, a major contributor to road accidents. While children are not behind the wheel, they often choose where to sit. We urge you to continue modelling and enforcing safe habits during car rides.
Rethinking Homework
At Taibah, we believe academic learning should take place primarily at school. Children need time at home to rest, explore, and bond with their families. We have implemented a policy to reduce the amount of academic work sent home, especially for our younger learners. In the Cambridge section, homework has taken a new form, requiring parental involvement in activities that promote social and emotional development. These include family projects and interactive tasks designed to foster communication and life skills. Boarding students have also engaged in creative projects that develop non-academic abilities and values. For our National Curriculum learners, weekend homework has been significantly reduced. We are exploring creative and individualised ways to ensure academic reinforcement while still protecting children’s time for rest and family life. We’ll continue to communicate more about this new direction and provide guidance on how parents can support their children meaningfully.
Science Week
The Cambridge section recently celebrated a successful Science Week, filled with experiments and investigations aimed at nurturing a spirit of scientific inquiry. Thank you, parents, for your support in making this possible. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by our students were remarkable, and we believe this experience ignited a strong interest in science.
Theatre Production
Our theatre production, The Hills Are Alive (an adaptation of The Sound of Music), was another highlight. Every child was involved, in line with our philosophy of discovering the hero in every learner. Theatre is not just a performance – it is an intentional effort to build confidence, creativity, collaboration, and communication. The show was magnificently produced at a level higher than previously. With a cast of more than 3,000 children, it was pleasing to see such performances from the children. We are grateful for your presence and contributions and congratulate all the children and staff on yet another success.
Easter Celebrations
Our Christian learners participated in Easter presentations designed to teach the meaning of Easter through music, drama, quizzes, and more. These activities provided valuable learning opportunities and helped our children better understand and relate to the Easter story in their lives both spiritually and morally.
Term Dates and Reminders
Term Two begins on Tuesday, 20th May, for boarding students and Wednesday, 21st May, for day scholars. As always, we kindly request that boarders report on the first day in accordance with our school policy on issuing beds. If reporting on time is not possible, please notify the school in advance and share payment confirmation where necessary. Lessons begin immediately, so punctual reporting is essential.
Once again, we thank you, dear parents, for your consistent support. We remain deeply grateful and pray that God continues to bless you with the means to nurture and support our children.
Have a wonderful holiday together with our children, and may the Lord keep you safe.
Warm regards,
Judith Musisi
